Possible Project Topics

Topic 1:  Goddess Ganga: I was really intrigued when I saw the list of goddess and I saw Ganga. I would like to stick with goddesses in my topics but who knows I may veer off if I find something interesting that sparks my interest.

Research: So far my in my research with Ganga on Wikipedia I found that the Ganges river is by far the most sacred river to the Hindu people. It supplies the needs for many who live along the river. Without this river some would not survive. I think it would be interesting to learn more about the rituals and what the river really means to the Hindus.

Topic 2: Karma: Karma has always been interesting to me. I have always been a believer in: You get what you put in and you get what you deserve so I think that it will be really interesting to further my research in the topic of karma. 

Research: I am not Hindu I am Christian but I still believe that what goes around comes around. In the wikipedia article. It states that Hindu people believe that good intent and good deed contribute to future happiness and vise versa.  However, other religions believe in karma as well. 

Topic 3: Sita-  I thought it might be interesting to research Sita since I did one of my Storybook's on Sita.  Let me add that her and Rama's story made for quite the love story. With that being said, Sita seems to be a very interesting woman so I want to learn more about her. 

Research:  While reading on the wikipedia website about Sita I learned that she is the Goddess of wealth. She is loved by all and is a very pure and wealthy woman. Many look up to her for her courageousness as well.  She is also one of the Goddesses associated with fertility. I will be interested to see what else I can research about Sita.

Topic 4: Rama is the hero in the story we are reading. He is the one who won Sita's heart and they lived "happily" ever after. I think it would be interesting to learn about Rama who is Sita's love. 

Research: While researching about Rama, on the wikipedia website I learned that Rama is often referred to as the Perfect Man, and his wife Sita also shows to be a Perfect Woman. 

Storytelling, Week 2 The Wedding

Once there was a Princess name Sita who was the most beautiful Princess in the land.  Sita and her family live in the land of Ever After. Their castle was the most beautiful castle you had ever laid eyes on. It stood on top of a gorgeous hill that was dressed with the most beautiful roses and lilies that you could ever think of. They had only the best gardeners so that the castle look it’s best morning, noon, and night.

Today was the day that Princess Sita had longed for. She was going to figure out who she was going to spend the rest of her life with.  Her suitors were first going to pass the test which was the test to see if Sita was attracted to them. If Sita was in fact attracted to them they would move on to the next test.

The next test would be if they were good cooks. They would then prepare their best meal for Sita and her entire family.  Although Sita and her family had their own professional cook they she still needed the security to know that she would be marrying someone who could cook her anything she wanted at the drop of a pin.

Finally, the next and final test would be which suitor could protect her during dangerous times.  They were to shoot a crossbow and see if they could in fact hit a target.  If they could hit the target they would in fact win her heart.

So the tasks began and one gentleman named Rama caught her eye. She knew that she was extremely attracted to him because she couldn’t take her eyes off of him.  Her mother and father had to tell her to give the other men a chance because he was the first suitor that she saw. 

However, all of the other suitors didn’t mean anything because she knew that he was going to be the one that she picked. He was everything that she had ever wanted.

In the end Sita called off the contest and told her family that she had picked Rama because she knew he was the one. He gave her butterflies and there was nothing that anyone else could do that would change that. 

After that, Sita and Rama run off on Rama’s horse for their honeymoon. They end up living happily ever after in the land of Ever After. Sita knew what she wanted and Rama was her perfect pick.

Authors Note: I chose the wedding story because I was so intrigued with the way that Sita had become so infatuated with Rama.  It was as if they fell in lust and not love. I could't imagine marrying someone and not even known them so I decided to put my own personal twist on the Rama Sita marriage story.

Reading Diary B Week 2

It is so interesting reading about Kamavalli because she is so infatuated with Rama. Kamavalli even attempted to kill Sita because she was in love with Rama and wanted to be with him.  She got caught trying to kill Sita and she got her nose, ears, and breasts cut off.

This story is so interesting to me because it is almost as if I am reading an intense and dramatic episode of Days of our Lives and I am reading about a love affair gone wrong. I am excited to see what else comes of the stories.

Reading Diary A Week 2

I have to admit that reading the first part of the book was a bit challenging at first because the names are very different. I am still learning! However, I am really enjoying reading about Rama. Rama really shows that he is pretty talented using the cross bow and shows that he can hold his own. How ironic that it said in the book that whoever could lift, bend and string Shiva's bow would be considered fit to become Sita's husband. Rama and Sita seemed to have fallen in "love" solely on attraction and nothing else.  How crazy would it be to marry someone you barely knew. The book also said that Rama's three brothers also found brides and married them as well. I couldn't fathom finding someone and not even knowing them and marrying them.
